Mohammed Shami retires from Test cricket

Mohammed Shami has retired from Test cricket after a 13-year career with India.

The 36-year-old made his Test debut against the West Indies at Eden Gardens in Kolkata in 2013.

He finished with 229 wickets in 64 Test matches, including six five-wicket hauls.

Shami was a key part of India’s pace attack at home and abroad, including the team that won its first Test series in Australia in 2018-19.

His retirement ends his career in the format played with the traditional white uniform, but he plans to keep playing white-ball cricket.

He has been named in Bengal’s squad for the 2026-27 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, which starts on November 14.
