Sokcho steps up winter checks to protect farms from snow and cold
Sokcho in South Korea’s Gangwon province is preparing farms for winter snow and cold.
The city has set up a winter disaster-prevention plan and will run an agricultural emergency office until March 2027.
The plan covers 355 greenhouses and 11 livestock sheds, with winter crops such as strawberries, leafy greens and tomatoes among the priorities.
From December through March, the city will carry out inspections once a month, checking supports against heavy snow, heating equipment, insulation supplies and risks such as frozen water pipes.
Farmers will receive alerts and guidance on repairs, clearing snow and maintaining drainage, while the city will also check heaters and offer mobile repairs.
