Kieren Fox suspended for 10 days over Wolverhampton ride
Jockey Kieren Fox received a 10-day suspension after stewards reviewed his ride at Wolverhampton on Tuesday evening.
He finished fourth of nine runners aboard Missmisfortune, a 40-1 outsider trained by Charlie Pike, in a novice race.
Stewards said Fox did not make enough effort to improve the horse from the two-furlong marker and rode without sufficient vigour in the home straight.
Fox said he believed he was riding at his strongest, while Pike’s representative said the horse was difficult to ride and they were satisfied with the ride.
The stewards ruled he failed to ensure the horse was run on its merits, a requirement they cited in their decision.
Fox will serve the ban from October 27 to November 6, with November 1 excluded; he returned to racing in February after six years away.
