Vietnam honours 96 farmers for innovation and contributions to agriculture

Vietnam honoured 96 farmers at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 12, marking 40 years of the country’s Renewal period.

The awards recognise farmers for innovative production methods and use of science and technology, including green, circular and high-tech approaches.

The ceremony was part of the “Pride of Vietnamese Farmers” programme, which has recognised farmers and cooperatives since 2013.

Dang Van Bay, a shrimp farmer in Thanh Phong commune, was named among the outstanding farmers for his high-tech marine shrimp operation.

His farm covers 45 hectares and has nearly 100 ponds, with annual output estimated at 800 to 1,000 tonnes.

Bay’s business also sells aquaculture supplies, gives about 2 billion dong a year to community support, and provides more than 100 local jobs.

Vietnam’s next goal is greener, higher-value rural production, using technology and supply chains to modernise agriculture.
