Nifty weekly expiry puts 22,250–22,500 range in focus

Nifty weekly expiry puts 22,250–22,500 range in focus

India’s Nifty 50 index fell 0.7% on Monday to 22,363, after dropping much further during the day.

Analysts say the recovery that began with a sharp rise on Friday has lost momentum.

Tuesday is the index’s weekly options expiry, when contracts linked to its expected level end, and trading can become more volatile.

One analyst put the main range of interest at 22,250–22,500, while others identified nearby support around 22,200–22,300 and resistance around 22,400–22,600.

Options positions showed more pressure from traders betting on a capped rise, and some nearby support had weakened.

Analysts described the broader short-term trend as weak, with one saying a sustained move above 22,776 would be needed to signal a bullish reversal.

They said a failure to hold support could bring lower levels, including 22,000, into focus.

The 22,500 strike remains a heavy positioning zone on both sides. With spot below the flip, sharp moves remain possible.

Failure to sustain the opening strength could bring 22,200 and eventually 22,000 back into focus.

On the downside, 22,180 is the near-term support; a break below this level could signal a resumption of the downtrend.
