Montreal police chief says more misconduct evidence will emerge

Montreal police Chief Fady Dagher says more evidence of officer misconduct will emerge from ongoing investigations.

The cases include allegations of racism and misconduct involving officers at Station 39 in Montreal North, where a patrol unit was disbanded and some officers were suspended.

A separate allegation says an officer deleted video evidence from a victim’s phone during a 2025 domestic violence investigation; Quebec prosecutors are investigating that case.

Dagher says the force has changed its internal investigations and created ways for officers to report colleagues who break rules.

He says most officers serve the public well, but those who deliberately break the law or policy should face consequences.

More details are expected in November, as investigations continue.

The allegations have renewed scrutiny of a police service that has faced claims of brutality and discrimination.
