Five-year-old boy dies at home in Grafton as police investigate

A five-year-old boy died at a home in Grafton, in northern New South Wales, on Monday morning.

Police say he was found unresponsive and could not be revived after emergency services were called.

Police are investigating allegations that the boy and at least one sibling were duct-taped into sleeping bags to sleep at night.

The boy is understood to have had developmental difficulties, and the family had previously come to the attention of the NSW Department of Communities and Justice.

Police are questioning the boy’s parents, but no one has been arrested or charged.

A post-mortem examination and a coroner’s inquiry are expected to help establish the circumstances of his death.
