Police arrest man over alleged Rp20 million counterfeit cash scheme in Jakarta

Police arrested a 31-year-old man in Cengkareng, in West Jakarta, over suspected counterfeit money.

Officers say they found Rp20 million in suspected fake Rp100,000 notes in his bag when they stopped him on Saturday night.

Police say he got the cash on another man's orders; that man, known as FA alias Ais, has been placed on a wanted list.

The arrested man told police he had already spent Rp16 million of suspected fake money to buy etomidate, also called pod, in the Kampung Ambon area.

Police suspect the remaining cash was meant for more purchases, with each item costing about Rp3 million, according to the police chief.

Officers also seized two mobile phones and a Honda Scoopy motorbike.

The case is under investigation under Indonesia's Criminal Code, and the legal process is continuing; FA has not been found.
