First-time entrants Kyushu University target wins over Hokkaido and Tohoku

Kyushu University entered the All-Japan Inter-University Women's Ekiden for the first time in Sendai, Japan.

The 44th edition of the race was held on October 25, with 27 teams competing over six legs covering 38 kilometres.

Kyushu's coach said the team was focused on beating Hokkaido and Tohoku, two other national universities.

He praised the runners' initiative and urged them to keep attacking rather than give up.

Fukuoka University set a target of 12th place as it took part for the 17th consecutive year.

Fukuoka was without a key runner who was injured shortly before the race, and its captain hoped to give the team a strong start in the first leg.

The available details do not give the race's final results.
