16-year-old dies after car plunges down ravine near Triora
Daniele Giacu, 16, died when a car plunged off a road near Triora in Italy's Imperia area.
His father, Michael, 36, was driving, and was seriously injured in the crash.
The vehicle left the Provincial Road 81 near Bregalla and fell about 60 metres into a ravine.
Rescuers found Daniele trapped inside the wreckage, while his father had been thrown from the vehicle.
Michael was taken by helicopter to Santa Corona Hospital in Pietra Ligure and underwent surgery; he remains in intensive care with a guarded prognosis.
Carabinieri are investigating what caused the car to leave the road, and have not ruled out any possibilities.
The crash has affected the community of Triora, where Daniele lived with his family, and the town plans to declare a day of mourning for his funeral.
