Van Hooijdonk says PEC Zwolle should have had a penalty in 1-1 draw

PEC Zwolle drew 1-1 in Tilburg in an Eredivisie match, with striker Van Hooijdonk saying he was pulled back in the penalty area.

Van Hooijdonk said the referee should have awarded a penalty, calling the decision scandalous.

Referee Allard Lindhout told him that he had first committed a foul.

Interim coach Dennis van der Ree agreed PEC had been denied a clear penalty and said his team needed to be more effective near goal.

The draw extended Van der Ree’s unbeaten start to four league games, with two wins and two draws.

PEC’s club leaders are looking for a permanent successor during the upcoming international break.

Van der Ree said he hopes to become a head coach in his own right, but the decision rests with the club.
