Seattle’s 1.4-metre-wide house has an uncertain sale status

A wedge-shaped house in Seattle’s Montlake neighbourhood is drawing attention for being just 1.4 metres wide at its narrowest point.

The house is said to have been built in 1925, though accounts differ on whether it followed a divorce dispute or a disagreement between neighbours.

In one version, a woman built it to block her former husband’s view after she received a narrow strip of land.

Despite its shape, the two-storey home has living space, a kitchen, bedrooms and bathrooms.

Its unusual design shows how a narrow plot can be turned into a usable home.

The accounts disagree on the sale: one says it sold for $745,000 after being listed at $799,000, while another says it was still waiting for a buyer at the $799,000 asking price.

The house remains a local landmark, but its sale status is unclear.
