Punjab anti-drug committee member shot and injured at home

A 27-year-old anti-drug committee member was shot at his home in Kaleke village, in Punjab’s Barnala district.

Amandeep Singh was injured in the thigh and taken to hospital; police said he was stable and out of danger.

Police have identified four local people in connection with the shooting.

Singh had previously given police information that led to a case against people suspected of drug peddling.

Police are still investigating the motive and checking whether the shooting was linked to personal enmity or another reason.

His earlier work with police may be relevant, but authorities have not confirmed a connection.

The case comes after another anti-drug activist was shot dead in nearby Mansa last month.
