Yerköy-Kayseri high-speed rail line passes 50% completion

Yerköy-Kayseri high-speed rail line passes 50% completion

Construction on the Yerköy-Kayseri line is over halfway complete, Turkey’s transport minister says.

The 142-kilometre route will run from Yerköy in Yozgat province to Kayseri and connect with the Ankara-Sivas high-speed rail line.

The connection is expected to bring Kayseri into Turkey’s high-speed rail network.

The government says the Ankara-Kayseri rail journey will take 1 hour 45 minutes when the line opens.

The project is designed for 5.5 million passengers and 13.5 million tonnes of freight a year, which officials say could reduce logistics costs and strengthen rail links.

Construction is continuing on tunnels, bridges and other structures; the information provided gives no opening date.
