Arizona toddler found breathing in hospital morgue after being declared dead

Eighteen-month-old Vincent Fiordilino was found face down in his family's pool in Gilbert, Arizona, and his parents performed lifesaving measures before taking him to hospital.

An emergency room doctor at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center pronounced him dead about an hour after he arrived.

His mother, Alexus, said she heard what sounded like breathing as she said goodbye, but staff told her it could be an involuntary reflex.

A police officer's account said a nurse reported finding a pulse and staff tried to revive Vincent, but the doctor later told them to stop.

More than five hours after he was declared dead, Vincent was found breathing in the hospital morgue when a medical examiner's transport arrived.

His family is now questioning the decisions made by the emergency room doctor; the available account does not say what happens next.
