Indonesia targets faster growth in 2027 despite economic challenges

Indonesia’s Deputy Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Dradjad Hari Wibowo, says the country still faces major economic challenges in 2027 even as the global outlook improves.

Global growth is forecast at 3.1%, but geopolitical risks, protectionism and volatile financial markets could still affect trade and investment.

Indonesia’s economy grew 5.45% in the first half of 2026, and investment reached 1,539.2 trillion rupiah in the first nine months, up 7.3% from a year earlier.

The government is aiming for 6% economic growth in 2027, with a longer-term target of 8%.

Reaching those goals will require faster investment growth, higher productivity and exports of more valuable products, supported by efficient logistics.

The government is also backing 26 downstream-industry projects expected to create about 37,833 jobs, while steps to simplify permits aim to improve certainty for investors.

Officials say investment and trade must become new sources of growth, and they are working to remove barriers and strengthen regulatory certainty.
