German court jails two men over Iran-linked plots against Jewish figures

A Hamburg court sentenced two men to prison for plots against Jewish and pro-Israel targets in Germany.

The Danish national received eight-and-a-half years, and his Afghan accomplice received four-and-a-half years.

Prosecutors said the main defendant took orders from Iran’s Quds Force, the foreign operations branch of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards.

The planned targets included Volker Beck, who leads the German-Israeli Society, and Josef Schuster, head of the Central Council of Jews in Germany.

The men also spied on Jewish sites, including a kosher shop in Berlin, which prosecutors said was targeted for an arson attack.

The court found that the plans were intended to be carried out in Germany and involved preparations for murder and arson.

Beck called for Germany to expel Iran’s ambassador, but the sources give no government response or further steps.
