12 schools named as recommendations for Japan’s 21st Century baseball places
Prefectural baseball associations recommended 12 schools for special places in Japan’s 2027 Spring Koshien high school tournament.
The recommendations include Tokyo Gakkan in Chiba, which reached the final four of its autumn prefectural tournament before losing 1-5 to Senshu University Matsudo.
The 21st Century枠 is for schools that have achieved results and are judged to show a model standard of high school baseball.
Tokyo Gakkan has been recommended for the second time, six years after its first recommendation, but it has not yet secured a place in the tournament.
Nine regional candidates will be chosen on December 11, after which a selection committee will decide the final places.
Two schools will be selected on January 29; if Tokyo Gakkan is one of them, it would make its first appearance at Koshien.
