Rémy Wyssmann joins race to succeed Guy Parmelin on Swiss Federal Council

Rémy Wyssmann has announced he will run for the Swiss Federal Council seat being vacated by Guy Parmelin.

The 59-year-old represents Solothurn for the Swiss People’s Party, known by its German initials SVP, in the national parliament.

He has served as a national MP since December 2023 and is a lawyer and notary.

Céline Amaudruz, an SVP MP from Geneva, is the other person to have officially entered the race so far.

Wyssmann said he wants to represent the middle class, and his party became the strongest force in Solothurn canton in 2025 under his leadership.

Several potential candidates have declined to run, including fellow Solothurn SVP MP Christian Imark.

The sources do not say when the party will choose its candidate or when the Federal Council seat will be filled.
