Iran says Strait of Hormuz could reopen in seven days if US accepts plan

Iran says it has sent the United States a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz through Qatar.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi described the proposal at a meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation in Baghdad.

He said normal ship traffic could return within seven days if the US accepts the plan and its conditions are met.

Araqchi said the decision now rests with Washington, while insisting Iran wants peace as well as the right to defend its interests.

The proposal comes amid a wider conflict between Iran and the United States, which has disrupted regional security and shipping.

The strait’s reopening depends on US acceptance, and a previous seven-day truce proposal from Iran was rejected by President Donald Trump, according to the reports.
