Two white tiger cubs are born through artificial insemination in Veracruz
Two white Bengal tiger cubs were born through artificial insemination at África BioZoo, a wildlife rescue and rehabilitation centre in Córdoba, Veracruz.
Their mother, Valkiria, was born at the centre, and their father is a male tiger named Tigger.
Staff separated the cubs from Valkiria because they judged the cubs had little chance of surviving if they stayed with her.
The cubs are receiving human care and medical attention, including controlled temperatures and special milk.
Nearly 20 days after birth, they had each gained weight: one went from 700 grams to about 1.8 kilograms, and the other from 800 grams to about 1.8 kilograms.
Their weight gain is a sign they are taking in nutrients, according to the centre’s representative.
They will stay under this care until they are strong enough to join the centre’s animals permanently.
