Marc Rahola Matutes builds a hotel group outside his family's business

Marc Rahola Matutes built his own hotel business after starting his career at Palladium, the hotel group run by his uncle, Abel Matutes.

Rahola says his family name gave him an advantage, but he wanted to find out whether he could succeed independently.

He learned the hotel business at Palladium, including through its expansion in the Caribbean, before pursuing a different style of hospitality.

In 2006, he bought and managed a 40-room hotel in Ibiza, which he kept open all year and designed to attract local visitors as well as guests.

His Ramat group now manages 15 hotels under the OD, Ryans and Coral brands, along with two branded-residence projects.

The projects include The White Angel and A:B:C, with developments in Ibiza, Baqueira, Andorra and London.

His business has grown beyond the family hotel group, though the account does not describe any further plans or next steps.
