Apple limits iPhone Duo pre-orders to two per customer

Apple is limiting iPhone Duo pre-orders to two units per customer in the US and several other regions.

The rule applies when customers try to order through Apple’s online stores, including those in Japan, Spain and the UK.

Apple began taking pre-orders on October 16, but it is unclear when the limit was introduced, and some customers said they initially ordered more than two.

The limit comes as demand has outstripped available supply, with Apple describing interest as extraordinary and launch-day delivery slots selling out quickly.

Apple’s stores checked show estimated shipping dates of January 22, though some early pre-order customers have received earlier estimates.

The restriction may make it harder to buy multiple phones at once, but it is unclear how Apple will stop buyers using multiple accounts.

Customers looking for a phone sooner may find earlier dates at other retailers, including Best Buy.
