Yankees Expected to Retain Pitching Coach Matt Blake
The New York Yankees are expected to keep pitching coach Matt Blake with a new contract for 2027.
Blake has coached the team’s pitchers since 2020, after working in Cleveland’s Guardians organization.
The Yankees faced multiple injuries to starting pitchers this season, including absences for Gerrit Cole, Clarke Schmidt and Carlos Rodón.
Even with those setbacks, Cam Schlittler led the American League with a 1.95 ERA, while several less-established relievers also performed well.
Blake helped the Yankees get strong results from their pitching staff during a season of rotation changes and bullpen contributions.
The bullpen could look different next season because several relievers are free agents, and Fernando Cruz’s status is uncertain; the team is likely to seek relief pitchers this winter.
The Yankees are expected to work out a new contract with pitching coach Matt Blake, according to a report cited by MLB Trade Rumors.
Blake’s current deal was set to expire at the end of the year.
