Spanish PSOE lawmaker’s property company is absent from his asset declaration

Spanish PSOE lawmaker Joaquín Martínez Salmerón is linked to a property company missing from his asset declaration.

The Murcia politician is the company’s sole administrator, and it began operating in December 2023 with nearly €1 million in capital.

His 2023 declaration to Spain’s Congress does not name the company, although it lists other assets and income.

Martínez Salmerón also founded a law firm that handles mortgage enforcement cases, including cases involving debt portfolios bought by US investment fund Apollo, according to the reporting.

The firm’s work includes cases that can lead to families losing their homes.

The issue draws attention because Spain’s government is preparing housing measures aimed at protecting vulnerable families and limiting large property owners.

The company’s absence from the declaration raises questions about transparency, while the sources give no response from Martínez Salmerón about the omission.
