SPEI Transfers Face Delays Across Mexico

SPEI Transfers Face Delays Across Mexico

On Saturday, October 17, users in Mexico reported delays sending and receiving SPEI transfers.

SPEI is Mexico’s system for electronic transfers between banks, which normally processes payments in seconds.

The delays affected reports involving Santander, Scotiabank, HSBC México and Banamex, though not every customer or transaction was necessarily affected.

The problems may be linked to emergency maintenance on Banxico’s payment system infrastructure, but the cause and scope have not been officially confirmed.

Because a pending transfer might still go through, some banks advised customers not to send it again until they check its status.

Customers can contact both banks involved or use Banxico’s electronic payment receipt service when the transfer details are available.

There is no confirmed time for all pending transfers to arrive, so customers should wait for official updates.
