Jeonnam-Gwangju plans 3.94m-sq-m semiconductor gateway district
Jeonnam-Gwangju plans a semiconductor gateway district linking Gwangju-Songjeong Station, the Kumho Tire factory site and a former military airport site.
The plan covers 3.94 million square metres across the station area, nearby neighbourhoods and the airport site.
The city wants the former airport site to support a separate national semiconductor industrial complex, while making the station a major transport interchange for high-speed rail, urban rail and buses.
The former Kumho Tire factory site would become a future industry district with business, research and start-up facilities linked to the semiconductor sector.
The plan also aims to improve the older Songjeong area and coordinate separate development projects to reduce duplication and uncontrolled growth.
The project is scheduled for 2026 to 2030, and a master plan next year will set development stages and investment priorities.
Jeonnam-Gwangju plans to develop a 3.94 million-square-metre district linking Gwangju Songjeong Station, the Kumho Tire factory relocation site and the military airport relocation site.
The project, called the NOVA Integrated Master Plan, is intended to connect transport, industry, research and development, start-up and urban-renewal functions.
The military airport relocation site is planned as an industrial centre linked to a separate semiconductor national industrial complex.
The city plans to prepare an integrated master plan next year and set investment priorities for individual projects.
The project period is 2026 to 2030.

What people are saying
We will use the location’s advantages as a regional transport gateway adjacent to the semiconductor industrial complex and link the project with urban-renewal initiatives.
We will gather expert opinions this year to set the development direction and determine investment priorities for each project in next year’s study.
