Siulp warns of protests over police pension funding in Italy's draft budget

The Siulp police union says Italy’s draft 2027 budget lacks promised pension funding for police and other public safety workers.

Siulp leader Felice Romano says the draft does not set out firm commitments or the resources previously promised for dedicated pensions.

The union argues these pensions should recognise the specific demands of work in uniform, rather than grant workers a special privilege.

Siulp also says the draft leaves unequal treatment between the State Police and other forces unresolved.

Another police union has welcomed some progress, but says adequate, certain funding is still needed to secure pension protections; a separate group has raised concerns about hiring delays and overtime arrears affecting the State Police.

Siulp is calling for talks with the government to resume immediately and says it is ready to take police protests to the streets if the government does not respond.
