Indonesia prepares four toll roads as emergency runways for fighter jets
Indonesia is preparing four toll roads for emergency fighter-jet use as part of national defence readiness.
On October 22, four Indonesian Air Force jets tested landings and takeoffs on a 3.5-kilometre stretch of the Pasuruan-Probolinggo toll road in East Java.
The road section was checked for suitability, and traffic was temporarily diverted during the test.
The Terbanggi Besar-Pematang Panggang-Kayu Agung toll road in Lampung was used for an earlier test in February.
The government has also prepared sections of the Jakarta-Cikampek II Selatan and Banda Aceh-Sigli toll roads for emergency use.
The plan gives strategic infrastructure a second role beyond carrying people and goods.
