China precious metals forum focuses on AI’s role in research and demand

The 2026 China Precious Metals Forum opened in Kunming on October 29, bringing together researchers and industry representatives.

Experts discussed how AI can help develop new precious metals materials, as well as industry growth, markets and recycling.

One researcher said his team is gathering experimental data so AI can help identify materials and the processes to make them.

AI growth is creating demand for precious metals used in storage and in powerful, heat-resistant chips.

That means AI could both benefit from new materials and help accelerate their development.

A Yunnan precious metals company said 1.29 billion yuan in refinancing would support research, including work with its AI laboratory; the forum also released a 2026 industry guide.
