Mexico’s INE reviews leadership and pauses most new contracts
Mexico’s National Electoral Institute, known as the INE, is reviewing its leadership after former president Guadalupe Taddei resigned amid allegations of conflicts of interest and possible corruption.
Interim president Blanca Cruz García requested the resignations of three senior officials who had been appointed under Taddei.
The INE says it will review who fills those roles and assess other senior positions, while keeping essential services running.
Most new contracts and awards are on hold until they are reviewed for transparency, though existing essential services such as voter-card production can continue.
The INE says it will work with its internal control body and the federal audit office to investigate possible wrongdoing, without assuming anyone is responsible before the process is complete.
The investigations are meant to clarify possible irregularities and establish accountability if evidence supports it.
The Council General will choose a permanent president through a constitutional process, while the interim leadership says it wants decisions to be made collectively.
Blanca Yassahara Cruz García became interim president of Mexico’s National Electoral Institute (INE) after Guadalupe Taddei resigned.
Cruz García said the institute would review senior posts and had requested the resignations of three officials appointed by Taddei.
The INE paused new contracts and awards pending review, except for essential services already under way.
The changes follow allegations of corruption and conflicts of interest involving Taddei; the articles do not report findings establishing those allegations.
Senator Pável Jarero defended a 2024 legal change that gave the INE president power to appoint and remove senior officials without approval from the General Council.

What people are saying
The structures of direction must respond to institutional needs and the agreements of the collegiate body. Never to personal loyalties.
The autonomy of the INE does not mean an absence of controls; it requires responsibility, transparency and accountability.
The aim was to prevent internal controversies and give that authority to whoever presides over the electoral body.
All these matters must be investigated to the very end. And if there are responsibilities, whoever must be sanctioned should be sanctioned.
