Denmark’s Crown Prince Christian makes state dinner debut

Crown Prince Christian attended his first state dinner on Monday, joining Denmark’s King Frederik X and Queen Mary at Christiansborg Palace in Copenhagen.

The dinner honored Vietnamese President Tô Lâm and his wife, Ngô Phương Ly, during their three-day state visit to Denmark.

Christian, 21, is first in line to the Danish throne and recently began taking on more public duties.

He wore the ceremonial uniform of the Royal Life Guards, where he serves as a second lieutenant and section leader.

Some Vietnamese guests reportedly did not recognize him during the receiving line, and he struggled briefly to remove one of his gloves at dinner.

His appearance marks a step in his growing role in royal diplomacy as Denmark and Vietnam observe 55 years of diplomatic relations.

Christian is expected to remain in his Royal Life Guards post until summer 2027.

For me, it is surreal to think about. I know this is what the future holds for me, among other things. I have known it since I was little and my parents have prepared me for it. So, of course, it excites me and makes me nervous at the same time. When my turn comes, I will try to perform that role as well as I can
