UCF beats No. 2 BYU 39-31 in double overtime after disputed calls

UCF beat No.

2 BYU 39-31 in double overtime in Orlando, Florida.

BYU had a chance to lose in regulation, but blocked UCF kicker Will Stone’s late field-goal attempt.

Stone recovered the ball and ran forward, and his helmet came off, stopping the clock as officials reviewed a possible BYU facemask penalty.

Officials picked up the facemask flag, so UCF did not get the penalty yardage and extra play that could have ended the game in regulation.

In the second overtime, BYU was called for roughing Stone after a field goal, giving UCF another set of downs.

UCF scored a touchdown and two-point conversion, then stopped BYU’s final drive when quarterback Bear Bachmeier’s fourth-down pass fell incomplete.

The disputed calls shaped a major win for UCF after BYU had beaten Notre Dame the previous week.
