Remo beat Botafogo 2-1 as visitors moved closer to relegation zone

Remo beat Botafogo 2-1 in the Brazilian league on Wednesday in Belém.

Jajá scored early for Remo, and Leonel Picco made it 2-0 before Edenilson pulled one back for Botafogo.

Botafogo stayed 11th with 39 points, while Remo were 19th with 29; the relegation zone began at 34 points, though the team in that spot had yet to play.

The win ended Remo’s three-month wait for a victory and brought relief to a team near the bottom of the table.

Botafogo have lost four of six matches under coach Tite and have won only once in that run.

Edenilson said the team must correct its defensive mistakes, after conceding what he called easy goals.

Botafogo’s next match is at home against Atlético-MG next Wednesday.

It is a difficulty that we ourselves have created, right? And then, only we can address it through our work… It is the second game in which we have conceded easy goals, which is not what we practice. We work very well on our defensive line and our positioning. So I think it is up to us to correct this together with the coach. Work so we can get out of this situation as soon as possible.
