Diesel prices to fall at TotalEnergies stations from 31 October
TotalEnergies will cut diesel prices by 10 cents a litre at 705 stations in France from 31 October.
The price at those stations will be 2.15 euros per litre, while other distributors are expected to lower prices from 2 November.
The price drop will not happen everywhere at once because distributors have different costs and abilities to change pump prices quickly.
The government released 10 million barrels from its strategic oil stocks, and the diesel was bought before the war in the Middle East.
TotalEnergies can reduce prices sooner than many rivals because it produces, refines and sells oil, while some smaller stations must first sell fuel they bought at earlier prices.
The government plans checks on price cuts to make sure distributors pass them on to customers.

What people are saying
Total extracts oil, transforms it, distributes it, and all of that is very profitable. Total has room to manoeuvre that most of its competitors do not, particularly large retailers.
It is a product I buy at a certain time, I set my selling price, and as long as I have diesel or unleaded fuel left in my tank, the price cannot change.
10 cents on 80 litres makes 8 euros, after all. That makes a difference.
