Real Madrid basketball coach faces reported tension with club leaders

Real Madrid basketball coach Pedro Martínez is reportedly at odds with club leaders despite a run of seven straight wins.

The team is based in Madrid and competes in Spain’s domestic league and the EuroLeague.

Journalist Ernest Macià said club leaders are unhappy with Martínez, though the winning streak is keeping him in his job.

The dispute has reportedly involved tensions with players and staff and the search for a replacement for injured forward Gabriel Deck.

Macià said a possible signing was left waiting after Martínez missed a planned video call and later sought a contract with an option to release the player.

Deck’s shoulder injury is expected to keep him out for a long time, but no return date has been given.

The reported turmoil could benefit Barcelona, which is still trying to establish its identity, while Real Madrid’s immediate results remain strong.
