Saudi market index slips slightly as most stocks fall

Saudi Arabia’s TASI index closed down 0.07% at 9,876 points on November 3, despite gains in some major companies.

Shares in 176 companies fell, while 66 rose and 12 were unchanged.

A 0.23% rise in Saudi Aramco helped limit the index’s fall, adding about nine points.

Trading value fell 3.5% to 3.43 billion riyals, below its recent average.

Investors are watching third-quarter results from 153 companies still to report, with the announcement deadline on November 11.

Companies that have reported so far recorded combined profits of 183.61 billion riyals, up 36% from a year earlier, but Aramco accounted for about three-quarters of that total.

Share prices may respond to how results compare with forecasts, not just to whether profits rose from last year.

The next trading session will show how investors react to results released after the market closed, including reports from Marafiq and Yanbu Cement.
