Volkswagen workers in Puebla reject labor agreement for a second time

Volkswagen workers in Puebla, Mexico, rejected a labor agreement for a second time in a vote on revised workplace conditions.

Of the 6,211 workers eligible to vote, 5,608 took part, and most rejected the deal.

The agreement followed months of talks between Volkswagen de México and the workers’ union, SITIAVW.

The company said it was the greatest effort it could make under current conditions and expressed concern about the result.

The rejection does not automatically stop production, and the company says operations will continue normally for now.

A strike could begin from 11 a.m.

on October 22 if the union proceeds with its strike notice.

Volkswagen said it remains willing to talk, but will not try to prevent a strike if doing so risks the future of the Puebla plant.
