Indonesia's Stock Exchange Plans to Target Suspected Manipulators' Accounts

The Indonesia Stock Exchange plans to target suspected stock manipulators' accounts instead of suspending the shares they trade.

The change was announced by exchange chief Jeffrey Hendrik in Jakarta on Wednesday.

Suspending a whole stock can disrupt market liquidity, even when only a few traders among many are suspected of manipulation.

Under the plan, the exchange would suspend the accounts of suspected manipulators rather than the shares or the wider market.

The aim is to make Indonesia's capital market more transparent and credible and improve its governance.

The exchange hopes this will help restore investor trust, which Hendrik said had been lost, but no timeline for the change was given.
