Mexico's annual inflation rose to 3.62% in early October

Mexico’s annual inflation rose to 3.62% in the first half of October, up from 3.49% at the end of September.

The increase was higher than analysts had expected, and underlying inflation, which excludes more volatile prices, also accelerated to 3.78%.

Electricity prices jumped 18.51% as summer tariff subsidies ended in 18 cities.

Green tomatoes rose 22.07%, while airfares and professional services also became more expensive.

Some foods, including lemons and regular tomatoes, fell in price, partly offsetting the increases.

The figures add pressure on the Bank of Mexico as it considers how to bring inflation toward its 3% target, with a one-percentage-point margin above or below.

The central bank kept its key interest rate at 6.5% in September and is due to meet again on November 5.
