Police officers help deliver baby during speeding stop near Warrnambool

Two police officers helped deliver a baby after stopping a speeding car near Warrnambool, in Victoria, Australia.

Sergeant Liam Cook and Constable Angus Hill were on patrol on the Princes Highway near Dennington just after 2am on October 19.

The driver, Joel, told them his wife, Jamie-Lee, was in labour and asked if they could help catch the baby.

The baby arrived before an ambulance could get there, with Constable Hill supporting Jamie-Lee and Sergeant Cook assisting with the delivery.

Their daughter, Ashlee, was born within two minutes, and the officers wrapped her warmly.

The healthy baby and her parents were taken to hospital after an ambulance arrived.

The family later reunited with the officers in Warrnambool and thanked them.

The roadside birth became a career highlight for the officers, who said the experience showed how varied police work can be.
