INSA poll puts Germany’s Union at 19% as dissatisfaction with Merz hits record

An INSA poll puts the CDU/CSU Union at 19%, below 20% for the first time in this survey.

The poll asked 1,004 people in Germany on November 5 and 6, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percentage points.

If an election were held on Sunday, the AfD would lead with 29%, followed by the Greens at 15%, the SPD at 14% and the Left at 10%; the FDP was just above the 5% threshold.

Dissatisfaction with Chancellor Friedrich Merz reached 82%, up from 67% in January 2026.

The same share, 82%, said they were dissatisfied with the federal government, a coalition of the CDU/CSU and SPD.

Asked about their personal situation under the government, 60% said it had worsened, 29% said it was unchanged and 6% said it had improved.

The poll records current views, but does not say what voters will do in a future election.
