Newborn found alive in a plastic bag near Milan

A woman walking her dog in Cinisello Balsamo near Milan found a newborn in a plastic bag beside a tree.

The baby appeared to have been born only hours earlier and was naked, with the placenta also in the bag.

Witnesses called emergency services, and one person wrapped the infant in a sweater to keep warm while they waited.

The baby was taken to Niguarda Hospital and treated for mild hypothermia, with some breathing support.

The newborn is now breathing independently and feeding by bottle, and hospital staff have named him Leone.

Local people have brought clothes, blankets and toys to the hospital, while many have offered to adopt him.

Any adoption would have to follow legal procedures.
