Japanese Precious Metals Company Interested in Investing in Indonesia
Japan's Tanaka Precious Metal is interested in investing in Indonesia to process precious metals.
The company plans to make potassium gold cyanide and bonding wire, materials used by the automotive and electronics industries.
Indonesia supplies some of the raw materials, but much of the processing takes place elsewhere, including in Taiwan.
The Indonesian Jewelry Producers Association says the investment could bring more of that industrial processing to Indonesia.
No investment amount has been agreed, and Tanaka wants regulatory issues resolved, especially rules affecting supplies of potassium cyanide.
The association has been asked to coordinate with Indonesia's Industry Ministry.
A meeting with the ministry's upstream chemical industry directorate is scheduled for November 2 as discussions continue.
