Rafael Nadal accepts offer to join Real Madrid board

Rafael Nadal has accepted an invitation to join Real Madrid’s board after the club’s leadership proposed his appointment.

Nadal, a Spanish tennis great with 22 Grand Slam titles, is also an honorary member of the Madrid football club.

Club members must approve the appointment at an assembly scheduled for November 21.

If they do, Nadal will take an active role in the club’s leadership.

Joining the board does not mean he plans to seek the presidency; no succession plan has been announced.

Real Madrid’s rules require a presidential candidate to meet several conditions, including 20 uninterrupted years as a member and a large personal financial guarantee.

Nadal would need to meet those rules to run for president in any future election.
