29 detained after operation against two alleged crime groups in Turkey

Police detained 65 people in a three-province operation centered on Adana, in southern Turkey.

The investigation targeted two alleged crime groups called Kurşunlar and Aylar, which authorities say were led by Mehmet Reşit Aktay and Abdurrahman Ay.

Police say members sought recruits online and threatened business owners to demand extortion payments, including through calls from foreign phone numbers.

Authorities also say Kurşunlar members shot a business owner's 15-year-old son in the head on October 19, intending to kill him.

A court ordered 29 of the 65 suspects held in custody after they were taken to court.

Fourteen others were placed under judicial control, while prosecutors ordered the release of 22; the account gives no further steps in the case.
