São Paulo governor says police procedures need review after three fatal shootings
São Paulo Governor Tarcísio de Freitas says police procedures need review after three people experiencing crises were fatally shot by Military Police officers.
The cases include a young man killed by 27 shots, a 40-year-old man hit by 24 shots, and a woman shot in the head.
The shootings happened in separate incidents in São Paulo, and accounts say officers faced different circumstances, including people reportedly carrying weapons.
Tarcísio said the state government is examining each case individually to understand what led officers to fire.
Investigations are under way, including a military police inquiry into the young man's death and a civil police investigation; officers involved in that case have been removed from operational duties.
Authorities have requested body-camera footage and seized weapons and a phone for examination, while the governor says the cases will inform a review of police conduct.
