Former 60 Minutes producer Bill Owens joins Newpress

Bill Owens, a former 60 Minutes executive producer, is joining Newpress as its executive producer, his first role since leaving the CBS show last year.

Newpress was founded by YouTube filmmakers Johnny and Iz Harris and includes Johnny Harris’s YouTube channel.

Owens will help creators develop shows and strengthen production across the company.

Newpress is raising $12 million in a funding round led by Emerson Collective, with other media leaders and YouTube creator Mark Rober also investing.

The company plans to launch several shows in the coming months, with a longer-term goal of 12 to 16 channels led by subject experts.

Newpress says it aims to combine high standards of journalism with creators’ ability to reach audiences who may be harder for traditional media to reach.
