Poll finds Netanyahu and opposition blocs tied before Israel election

A final poll puts Netanyahu’s bloc and its main opponents at 51 seats each ahead of Israel’s Tuesday election.

A government needs at least 61 seats in the 120-seat Knesset, so neither bloc is close to a majority on its own.

Arab-led parties and the nonaligned Reservists are projected to hold the balance, but many opposition parties have ruled out joining a coalition with the Arab-led parties.

The poll projects Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party to win 23 seats and Netanyahu’s Likud to win 21.

The projected seat totals point to a difficult path to forming a government, as both camps have also ruled out joining a coalition with the other.

If no coalition can be formed, another election would be held in early 2027, with Netanyahu staying on as caretaker prime minister.

The poll found that most Israelis would not want him to remain in that role.
