Salmonella confirmed in 40 people after wedding meal in Benalmádena

Health authorities in Andalusia confirmed salmonella in an outbreak affecting around 40 people after a wedding meal on October 10.

The meal was served at a hotel in Benalmádena, in southern Spain.

Those affected reported diarrhoea, stomach pain, nausea and vomiting, and some had a fever.

Hotel workers also ate food from the wedding at the staff buffet, and one waiter was reported to have been admitted to hospital.

A waiter said he had eaten the meat with hollandaise sauce, but the reports do not establish which food caused the outbreak.

The health authority said the cases it counted were mild, and the investigation confirmed the bacteria responsible.

WaiterHotel waiter affected after eating the wedding meal
In the morning, my stomach started hurting, I went to the bathroom, but I didn't think much of it, and I went to work. But at work, in the afternoon, I had to go to the bathroom again. On my way, I started vomiting and vomiting, I couldn't stop, I looked like the girl from The Exorcist... And that's when my colleagues told me: 'This is from the wedding'.
